    Post

One thing I have rediscovered with the #SocialMediaResolution campaign from Posterous Spaces is post.ly.

Post.ly is simple web interface that looks like nearly every other third-party Twitter client, with one exception, it allows you to add more information to prop-up the subject in your Tweet.

The beauty to Post.ly is that it will make you treat headlines for your post on your Posterous Space as a Tweet. Makes perfect sense, we want our headlines to be as catchy and shareable as our Tweets. Don't we?

To start the new year, Posterous launched a Social Media Resolution minisite to help users find and reach goals for their social media usage. To sweeten the deal, Posterous will be awarding several Kindle Fire to the authors of their favorite resolutions.

Below are a couple of my social media resolutions for 2012. Now the challenge is staying on track with these resolutions.

Question time: What, if any, is your social media resolution?

TechCrunch produced a cool video of the Posterous headquarters as part of the TC Cribs series. The Posterous crew is set-up in San Francisco's Mission District with a killer view from the buidling's deck.

Two things came out of left field for me. 1) The Snuggies 2) Bud Light Lime. Nothing against those fine products, it was just different, and well Posterous is a different type of blogging service.

Anyone who has talked to me for more than five minutes about tools for a solid blog and social media toolkit knows I recommend Posterous. The service has a lot desired featured built-in that provide full spectrum coverage to the social Internet.

Besides all the published reasons to use Posterous there is one huge advantage to Posterous that no one has came out and announced, but that reason it makes the time and effort spent on Posterous well spent.

Can you guess what it is? The comment box is ready for your answer, so give it your best guess.

    Dr-evil-dos-ray-fails
A little after noon yesterday a Denial of Service attack was underway at Posterous (this blog is hosted with Posterous) that made the service temporarily unavailable for a while The folks at Posterous were quick on the draw and had rerouted traffic to a new load-balancing service and had most users back on line.

Except the people like me who use a custom domain, those of us had to go back to our domain register and make an A Record change. I use www.GoDaddy.com to register this domain, so the the A Record change was fast and easy with the Total DNS settings.

Will yesterday's D.o.S. make me reconsider moving this domain back to a Wordpress, Tumblr, Blogger or other blogging platform? No. Posterous makes sharing a quick link, a thought, a few photographs, a video or whatever as simple as possible and across all the Social Networks I use in one posting.

Before this incident there has only been one time that I did contact their Help Desk and then I had a reply fast and the problem fixed in no time. In the case of the D.o.S. downtime, Posterous sent an e-mail to let me know the problem before I had a chance to discover it for myself. I've been publishing to the Internet since the 80s and I haven't seen a company or service address issues as fast as Posterous has so far.

If you have not tried Posterous and are looking for a simple way to blog or just share your photos and video, you should. You can get started fast by just creating an e-mail with what is on your mind, maybe attach a photograph then send it to post@posterous.com. You'll will get a reply via e-mail letting you know that your own Posterous is up and ready for you use start sharing with the world.

I'm a mild mannered photojournalist (or editorial photographer), father, new grandfather a die hard Linux user, bad golfer, a so-so guitar player and I tend to blog a lot. This blog is just where my raw ideas, random photos and links come to rest.
